Mending Workshop

Join us Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. for a clothing sewing/mending workshop led by Maria, a local crafter with a love of slow  fashion, thrifting, reuse, and repair.

Whether you want it to look low-key or bright and visible, this workshop will teach basics of functional fixes and mends to extend the life of your clothes.  There will be an instructor to provide tutorials and guidance, a plethora of material (buttons, fabric scraps, thread), and some example mends to spark your creativity!

Please bring a current project or something you’ve been meaning to fix – a rip to mend, a hole to patch, or a broken seam to repair.

No experience is required, and all ages interested in sewing are welcome.

StoryWalk

Our new StoryWalk is up, just in time for the opening of Bellevue Pool!

Outside is waiting, the most patient playmate of all. The most generous friend. The most miraculous inventor. This thought-provoking picture book poetically underscores our powerful and enduring connection with nature, not so easily obscured by lives spent indoors.

Rhythmic, powerful language shows us how our world is made and the many ways Outside comes in to help and heal us, and reminds us that we are all part of a much greater universe. Emotive illustrations evoke the beauty, simplicity, and wonder that await us all . . . outside

Whether you are going for a swim, playing on the playground, or checking out he exercise equipment, take a moment to celebrate the outside with Outside In.

Learn more about our StoryWalk and get additional reading recommendations and activity ideas. Share pictures and updates with us at #baynestorywalk.

*This project is made possible by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds for the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

American Girl Dolls at Bayne!

Thanks to the Allegheny County Library Association’s Youth Services, two American Girl dolls are now available to borrow! Julie is a historical doll from 1974 and Tenney was a doll of the year in 2017. You must come into the library to check them out. Check out some of the fun they had over the weekend!

The girls read a little Jane Austen…
…and they made our craft of the week – Earth Day flowers!
Their checkers game got a little heated, but they remembered it’s important to be kind.
They soaked up the sun outside…
…and had a blast swinging!
