James H. Teufel was born on January 15, 1895. He graduated with honors as part of the 1913 class of Bellevue High School. He then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh school of mines in 1917. He was a gas chemist at the Monessen plant of the Pittsburgh Steel Company. He enlisted on March 16, 1918 and served in the Gas Defense Division in Chemical Warfare Service stationed in Philadelphia. He was a 1st Class Private and was honorably discharged on February 3, 1919. He died on March 6, 1920 at the age of twenty-five. He lived on 66 Sprague Avenue in Bellevue. His parents were Frank J. Teufel and Mary E. Teufel, he also had three sisters Margaret, Gertrude, and Mary.
